Been looking around for a target 22 and there hasn't been a whole lot. Have an opportunity to purchase a 52 target, it has been drilled and tapped therefore making a scope addition easier, as well have an additional opportunity to purchase a 75. The stock is redone as it was in bad shape besides has also been drilled and tapped, both are scoped one with a 10-40x50 Tasco, the other with a BSA Plainum 8-32x44 each $500. What would you do?

Perhaps one of you has something more original and a good quality shooter?

Way over priced for the Win 75. The 52 sounds like a pretty good price, depending on model and condition. I'd buy it for that price in decent shape.
The scopes are probably throw away - the BSA's don't have a good reputation and most Tasco's are junk $100 scopes.
Original sights would be nice.

Win 52

Hi Chris,
That particular 8x32BSA is not a 'throw-away'. Strange co-incidence; it might be the one I sold to the sellers uncle! I bought it new and it is a good scope, or at least was when when I had it. It's worth $100.

52's usually shoot pretty good; take it out ot the range to trial. Good luck in your hunt. Will call you if I find something for you. :)

Winchester 52's are IMO one of, if not the best .22 cal out there. My 52D will outshoot my Anschutz by a fair margine (54), and is very, very accurate.

Check and see what model it is. 52C's and 52D's are target models where the A's and B's are more sporter style guns.

$500 with a scope is a very good deal IMO

I would go with the 52C or D.
I have a Gun Digest Collector Book of 1980 I beleive.
It has a great article about the German ES350 22 Mauser, I presently own. But quite often in the text it refers to this Mauser as a 22 rifle designed to compete against the American Winchester Model 52.

Although this Mauser is very nice in finish, the author did state more than once, that the Model 52 rifles were generally a little bit better in the accuracy department.
