I just bought a Swift of a fellow CGN'er and I really don't know where to start reloading this girl?
What type of powder seems to shine in this cartridge as well as bullet weight?? I have numerous reloading manuals but could spend hundreds trying to find a decent load using their load info.
So let me know what your favorite recipe is?? Im shooting a Model 700 VSSF with what I believe is a 1 in 12 twist

Cheers!!

In a heavy Winchester 70:

Bullet: Sierra 50 Grain Spitzer
Powder: IMR-4064
Primer: Remington 9-1/2
Case: Winchester

And if the weather ever breaks and get decent enough to go to the range I am working up loads for a Ruger standard weight using:

Bullet: Sierra 55 Grain Spitzer
Powder: H-414
Primer: Remington 9-1/2
Case: Remington

Scott; I have been loading the Swift for 3½ decades now and have used several loads that just seem to work in any Swift. BTW, That 700VSSF will have a 1-14" twist unless it has been rebarrelled. Here goes.
50 Ballistic Tip 40.0 grains IMR 4064 in a WW case fired by a BR2 primer.
50 Ballistic Tip 40.0 grains Vihtavuori N140 in a WW case fired by the WLR primer.
55 Ballistic Tip or V-max 42.5 grains H380 in a R-P Case fired by the 9½ R-P primer.
52 Sierra HPBT Match 39.5 grains RL15, WW case BR2 primer.
These have been outstanding in several Swifts over the years. Start about 2grains below and work up carefully. I have a few other good recipes also with 4320, H414, 4895 and Varget, but the ones I listed have been the best. Enjoy your Swift, there is nothing quite like it!! Regards, Eagleye

Thats what I was looking :) Thanks Eagleye.

I tend to use whatever powders I have on hand, and often use 3031 in cartridges that others might not......... Here were two loads that gave me great accuracy:

1. RP brass, Win LR primer, 35.5 gr 3031, 55 gr Nosler BT Spitzer

2. RP brass, CCI BR2 primer, 37.5 gr 3031, Hornady 50 gr SX
