anyone have any experience with these? looks like an interesting round. too bad it doesn't come in the cz 527 lux (american only), love that styling and action.

its a wonderfull lil cartridge, that needs to be handloaded to reach its full potential.
i have a 527 american, and it would be the last one i give up.
221 is highly underrated as far as im concerned. with carefull handloading, in the 527, ive reached over 3300 fps with a Vmax 50 grainer

just bought a hornet here. what seems nice about the fireball is that it has a high accuracy potential, and can be semi-hotrodded or loaded down to hornet levels. seems like a very practical common sense cartridge, which is no doubt why its not popular, hehe.:)

One of my gopher rifles is a Browning 1885 Low Wall in .221 Fireball (re-chambered from .22 Hornet). The Fireball does everything that the Hornet can do (probably a little bit more) and it has the advantage of having much more durable brass. (Plus, I can load the .221 on the Dillon 550 :) )

I was considering having my 22 hornet re-chambered to 221, but I'm not sure if the action can handle it - the Hornet action (in this gun) is a souped-up rimfire magnum action, and the Hornet tops out around 45000psi IIRC. The 221, based on the 222/223 family is good to what, 65000psi?

Good question - The max avg pressure for the .221 Fireball is 52,000 CUP, according to Chuck Hawks:
http://www.chuckhawks.com/221fireball.htm

The SAAMI max for the Hornet is 43,000 CUP (down from 47,000 CUP), so, it may not be a good idea.
