I would try a 62g boat tail, the 1:9 twist seems to like these.

You never know, it may fire well with the 55g campro fmj, if it does you're a lucky man.

69 gr smk's shoot great in my 1-9. as do 60 gr vmax. The vmax is a much cheaper but less efficient bullet if you intend to shoot extended ranges. I was however very impressed with the terminal performance of the vmax with the one critter i did shoot(wolf at about 120 yards)

My 1:9" Savage shoots 55 and 60gr Vmax, 60gr HP Sierra Blitzking and 55gr Barnes MPG (long for calibre) extremely well. It shot the 55gr Nosler Varmageddon's well too. I haven't messed with 50gr bullets in reloads but of all of cheap factory ammo I have tried the American Eagle 50gr HP shot by far the best (much better than the 55 and 62gr AE FMJ's).

Yeah, the AE cheaper stuff. I don't know what it is with cheap federal ammo, but their brass is usually quite decent. I'm personally liking the blue box power-shok ammo as well. It's a touch cheaper and most of the time it's more accurate than the other brands you find at crappy tire.

Anybody try the Federal premium blue box 64 grain soft point in 1:9 twist?

Mine like the 60 VM, no problem stabilizing... but they like the 55 VM just about as well.

69gr mine will shoot 77gr but 1-9 will handle 69gr for sure.

Hornady 75gr match bullet works very well in both my 1 in 9 Savages but with different powders (different barrel contours)

I've loaded my 9-twist .223 with 40 (up to 3500 fps), 53, and 55 gr VMAX and 69 gr SMK's (up to 2950 fps). All have shot very well. I've settled on the 53 VMAX for varmint/coyotes, but I would like to see what the 69 gr SMK would do on a coyote....
