Thanks in advance.

A bug hole isn't something a specific scope will provide for you, a lot more involved. With regards to the optic though, I would suggest something with variable magnification and a reticle with a gap at the very center.

As fine a reticle as your eyes can handle and as much power as your eyes with that reticle can handle.

Magnification is your friend for target shooting.

Disregard the 3-9 with a duplex, that is way more geared for game.I think this is kind of what you are looking for IMO.

I'd fancy something along these lines, and yes there is similar in the SIII line that Jerry suggests

For target shooting, I would rather have target turrets than a BDC or other complicated reticle. Inevitably your trajectory will change with the conditions and you will have to make adjustments. The Sightron and other target intended scopes have nice fine reticles which I like. Hunting scopes have courser reticle to make for easier spotting, but for shooting at targets I prefer a fine reticle or target dot.

I can no longer own a scope that isn't FFP with a MRAD 'tree' reticle... Vortex EBR-C7 is awesome, I also like the Athlon APLR1 and H59 etc. I've had a BDC and it just doesn't give you enough 'information'.

100-300 with a .223 is pretty basic, depending on what load you shoot its about 2" low at 200 and 7"-9" low at 300. ...You can shoot a .22 at those distances but it's more fun!
