I would like to start reloading for m .223 AND .308.
Is there a powder that will work in both calibers or will I be compramising one for the other.
I plan on using 75g A-max for the .223 since I will be shooting to 800yds.
and 168g A-max or jacketed bt for the .308.

Your suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Go with Varget, but stay away from 168's. They might work at 800 and 900 but if you ever get to the 1000 yard line they are sh*t. Go with 155 A-max instead.
75-80 grain .223 in front of 26 gr of Varget and 155's in front of 46 of Varget works great in my rifles. Please work up to these loads in your rifle.

If you want to use surplus powder WC735 should fit the bill. 5% quicker than H335.

Yep, and it's what the NATO versions were loaded with. However, it may not be entirely suitable for the heavier bullets you're planning on using

i'd second the 748- i've used nothing but with speer 70's in the 223 and 180's in the 308- magnum primers, though

^ careful there. Benchmark is quite fast for use in a 308, especially with heavier bullets. Yes, it will work, but your loads will have to be quite light, and you'll not achieve great velocities.

+1 on varget, accurate with the 75bthp/amax, and 154 up to 178 for the 308

+2 for Varget. IMHO, Varget is the best universal powder you can buy. It seems to work great in most small to medium calibers, say up to 30-06 :D

Varget works well with 308. The optimal amount of powder fills the case without compression. It can handle temperature fluctuations. At $145 for 8 pounds, you can’t go wrong. Varget is known to serve both .308 and .223 well.

My 223 shoots well H4198. I don’t want to fool around with something that is work well already.
