Now that i have my mossberg mvp setup, its time to get some rounds put down range. Where I regularily shoot is only 100 yards which is fine for this rifle. My question is, what kind of distance can I expect out of this caliber?

With a 1:9 twist you might be able to shoot 75 gr bullets if you use 2 scoops of powder. If you can stabilize the 75 gr bullets, reaching 1000 yards should be no problem. If not, try the 69 gr SMK bullets. I have no experience with 69 gr bullets at 1000 but I know they do work out to 600.

Your rifle has a 1/9 twist for shooting to 1000 y the 75gr Bergers should work well Varget & RL 15 would be choice of powders

Could also try the 77gr tactical from berger. I shot them in my 1:9 with varget and worked good.

I never could get the 69gr sierras to shoot better then 1-1.5" at 100 no matter what I tried. I shot 2 boxes and couldnt do any better. I then tried the hornady 68gr bthp and those shoot very very good.

awesome info guys! 5-600 yards is perfect 1000 is just insane! thats great news!

I built this RPA Quadlite for fullbore competition in 223. I shot it for years with 80 grain bullets with VV 550. Performed very well at 1000 yards with my highest score 74-9V.

I have a fast twist barrel (1:7), on my Rem 700 custom, and take them out to 1050 yards. I use the Hornady 75gr. A-max

My hunting rig features a 1:12 twist (slower) and shoots the lighter bullets. I don't push too much past 400 with it.

I shoot out to 600 with 75gr amax over benchmark getting good groups will be trying 1000 soon I know they will make it but wins does get tricky at that range but they work fine I find the amax likes to be just off the lands.

A 223 is fairly accurate out to 1000 yards, that does not mean your mvp rifle is. I'm sorry to report that a buddy bought one at the beginning of summer and it didn't shoot very well.

I believe the mvp has a 1:9 twist rate which should be 1:8 for 80 grainers, so there's the first problem, but that wouldn't matter anyway if it's not accurate.

With a little luck yours shoots better than my buddy's.

I spent some time breaking it in well so hopefully that helps. so far at 100 yards its bang on LOL
