223 556 reloading 55g Campro oal length metal Mag

well this is just a reminder to not take reloading data as Fact

Was doing some 223 556 reloading with 55g Campro fmj for plinker ammo for a Savage (there is lots of room oal)

and friend tried to use them in a Mag --they do not fit --- too Long

to fit in the metal Mag length has to below 2.242 +-

this will also affect all fbj/ plastic tip in Mags

Correct sammi oal = 2.260

length from campro reload data =2.260

I've very surprised by this... Sammi Max OAL is 2.260. Most mags take longer with no problems. Do you only have one D&H mag to compare to? It could possibly be just that one mag was bent in during production.

I would just seat the bullets to the cannelure. If you're just making plinking ammo with 55 grain FMJs, there is no need to over-think OAL.

Bullets with a short bearing surface may not get best results by the usual procedure of seating them to the maximum of magazine length or proximity to the rifling lands because doing so would leave very little of the bullet in the case.

2.260 is SAAMI Max.

I have several different brands of mags and load my ammo at 2.250 or less so it will fit. It comes out at around 2.247" on average, with the odd one longer.

If I set the average to 2.250" there is a risk of a round jamming in a mag.

Loading for guaranteed function in an AR15 is different than loading for best accuracy. Pick one.
