What kind of accuracy could you reasonably expect from WWB 55g ball ammo out of a Savage 10FP?

Thanks Levi. I was just wondering what I could hope to expect. I took the gun out today and had one group in around the 1 inch mark at 100 yards, but many were not. It was a bit windy and I was just using the picnic table (that comes in the CRV) for a bench and a folding nylon chair with a Hoppes front rest and a couple of home made bags for the rear. I left thinking I'm not as good as I wish I was.

I have one buddy who has a Savage 16 that loves the stuff, shooting 3/4" to 5/8" consistantly.
I have 2 other buds one with a Savage 16, the other with a Rem 700 who get what's better discribed as patterns not groups with the stuff.
The conclusion is that every rifle is built different.
Assuming one load that shoots well in one rifle will shoot as good in another rifle is pure inerxperience talking.
Here's the key:
RANGE TIME, and EVALUATION

I have over 300 rounds to 'evaluate' and then it's time to do something with the brass I think.;)

there are so many variables to this simple question:
1) the quality of your rifle
2) the skills of the shooter
3) shooting conditions
4) etc, etc, etc
Factory ammunition is not as good as handloaded ammunition, but it is still very good.
If you cannot achieve 1" groups shooting from a bench, your gun needs to be accuraized.

Blame the shooter before you claim it is the ammo or the gun first.
I find wwb is fairly consistant at 100m, and if ever something was 'paterning', I'd be looking to replace the one behind the trigger.

So apperantly I suck as far as a shooter goes. The rifle is new and has had about 50 rounds through it now. The ammo is stamped W C C 8 8 on the base and I assume it's WWB as I got a bunch bulk in a deal and not all is boxed, and I'm not sure if the stuff in the boxes are in the original boxes.

I just cleaned it and checked the bedding bolts and the front one was about 1/10th a turn fron tight. Maybe this will make a diffference.

Sorry, I should have clarified my 'paterning' comment was for 'Leftydick'

To answer your question, maybe.
I know sometimes I get out on an old rickity picnic table out at Sybald and shoot a 5 round 4" group at 100m with my AR and handloads on a more or less stable setup knowing full well the ammo and gun will do sub-moa.
Sometimes my shooting sucks balls, there is no shame in that.

Limited rounds through the barrel, bedding block torque, windy conditions, shooter, etc., etc. All I'm saying is there is a lot I'd look at before laying blame on factory made ammo and the gun.

Ahh.. this helps explain some of it. Your gun isnt even broken in yet. Accuracy will improve as you send more shots down range. The barrel will need to have a few hundred rounds sent through it before you get to see its "factory" potential.
NO need to worry at this point. Just keep doing what you were doing, and keep your technique in mind with each shot. It could be just the rifle being so new, or it could be a combo of you and the rifle. Once you get to shoot more rounds, you will get used to the gun, and the gun will tighten up on its own.

Dont sweat it just yet, ...get back to us after a few more range days and we can help you fix any flaws in your technique. dont blame yourself yet....
cheers,

"...using the picnic table..." How solid is it? If it wobbles at all, it could be causing your groups to grow a bit. However, an inch at 100 isn't at all bad. Lots of shooters pray for a 1" group. Careful hand loading can reduce the group, but an inch isn't bad at all.
Keep the brass for future reloading.

Use that Winchester white box ammo up practicing and then load up some 50 grain vmaxs from Hornady. Your Savage will love you. 1" groups at 100 yards is fine btw... any wind or other less than perfect factors will stretch them and there is no shame in that. Ignore gun rags and tv shows and crap you hear on the internet. Have faith, get loading and you'll be happy.
And whatever you do, don't "accuraized" you rifle. Is that short for Hazing with Crazed Acumen?... I'm such a ####.

This is what my Savage 10FP-LE does to WWB ammo @ 150 yards. It's chambered in .223. No complaints. This group was done with less than 100 pills down the pipe. It still shoots sub-moa out to 300m on calm days, but I shoot slightly more than moa on windy/gusty days. Practice and form are paramout to precision. Keep up the good shooting.
