.223 ammo

What about in BC, Lower Mainland?? Just bought an AR and was going to buy a few boxes to get ready when she arrives. The old guy at the local store said that they can't get any because everything is "being shipped to the Yanks to shoot the Arabs" (his words, not mine!). I emailed Canada Ammo.com and they said that they had none in stock and should get some in the Spring. I admitt I didn't check anywhere else yet but is it that hard to get some .223/5.6 these days?

bc steve- P&d has alot of .223 right now, they should be able to ship to you, they're in Edmonton.

I think it's 299$ for 1000 55gr FMJ and

325$ for 1000 62gr FMJ

marstars site says they are out of stock... wholesale sports in Calgary and Russell's in Calgary are about cleaned out of 223 FMJ as well... I just bought 2000rds on thursday at wholesale and went back on friday to get more for a freind and it was all gone. 9mm seems to be dissapearing to.

yeah, I heard the same thing... all the 5.56 is going to the States to fight the war(s).
I also heard from another store that the AR's might be hard to come by in the new year.. no details on that one though...

for 223 in BC Lowermainland try John if you are going to the range in PoCo on Burke mountain. He is the Range Officer there. He has some for sale. If you don't shoot there then Reliable has some as well.

Correct me if I am wrong but the US Military does not use .223 Remington, but 5.56x45mm NATO / M855, which has a tighter neck than the .223 Remington, and the US Military has its own ammunition factories.

The US isn't allowing exports of 5.56mm NATO ammo, .223 Rem is being exported, and is widely available in Canada.

American Eagle (Federal) 55gn FMJ-BT is currently on back order from the distributor, though many dealers have it in stock, 62gn FMJ-BT is available for immidiate delivery.

Winchester 55gn FMJ is also widely available.

RE .223 ammo, we just received confirmation of another shipment of Winchester .223, won't last long once it arrives in ten days. John

The US Gov't owns the Lake City ammo plant, but does not run it. The contract to run the plant is awarded by contract. Winchester had it for years, but it is currently run by ATK, parent company of Federal.

The US also buy ammo from other suppliers, as required.

The outside dimentions of 5.56 and .223 Rem are the same. The chamber of the gun is slightly different, with the commercial chamber being tighter in the neck and in the throat.
