.223 BLR accuracy?

Hey guys,

I like lever guns, but I can't carry one year round in NB unless it's in a .22 caliber. So the BLR in .223 appeals to me (Not a .22-250 - wouldn't want one unless I got a killer deal).

What sort of accuracy do the .223 BLRs get? I was thinking of selling my accurate-to-me Savage Model 10 (in .223) and going for the BLR, but if the BLR gets 3" groups at 100 yards or something, I'm not interested.

(I'm guessing the used BLRs are pretty hard to find in .223 and would cost anywhere from $700 to $900?)

My buddy had one that we used to shoot a lot we would set up spent shotgun shells laying on their side @ 50 yards and shoot the primers out this was with a total piece of schit scope mounted.

I'd say in the case of this rifle anyway it was extremely accurate...

You should be able to get 1" accuracy out of it, maybe more. I shot a 243 that did 3/4". I had a 284 that did 1". My 325 blr does 1.5". Hard to live with at the range but in the field it doesnt miss.

I have a BLR in .223. I just use the iron sight, no scope, and I find it to be accurate for hunting under 100 yards. I have not tried further. I have heard the BLR referred to as having bolt gun accuracy. The barrel is not heavy and heats up pretty quick with repeated successive shots.

No experience with a BLR in .223, but BLRs are plenty accurate. The Gun Room in Waterloo has one in Very good-excellent condition for $695 + tax. They ship to.

Do ya know if it's the laminate stock or not? I see it's a pistol grip by the description, but there's no pix.

It looks like a fair deal. I am pretty tempted to sell of my Savage Model 10 and buy it, but I hate buyer's remorse.... I got the Savage for half what it's worth, and it shot awesome the only time I took it out. I'd hate to replace a deadly rifle I got for a bargain for a so-so rifle that I paid a lot more for.

Not to sure on the details. You should email them though and they'll send you pics. I bought a 7600 in .35 whelen from there and they sent pics pretty quickly.

That would be a cool rifle but expensive for what you are going to get I'm thinking you would be better off with something with the potential of better accuracy and for a lot less money or just post an ad in the EE for what you are looking for...

Well, there just isn't much out there in .223 that has quick handling, manual-action repeater, and iron sight capabilities along with the potential for scoping. And I don't know of any other lever in .223.

I s'pose I could get that Remington 7615 that's been on the EE for a while, but the sight radius looks pretty dang short for irons.

Aside from that - I've got no interest in buying a semi-auto at the moment, and the only other .223 with irons I know of is the Norinco JW-105 or the single shots from Baikal or Rossi or NEF.

Maybe I should just get a gunsmith to put irons on my Savage Model 10 and be done with it.

I'm screwed because of my province's stupid gun laws. What I really want is a centerfire lever rifle I can carry all year round, and thanks to our game laws, that means I'm restricted to a .22-cal. The only manufacturer I know of making a .22-cal centerfire lever rifle is Browning. I could look for a .22-250 Savage 99, but that's probably going to cost me nearly as much.

I forgot about that and that totally changes the situation go order that rifle and get it over with.

Me I would be packing my 21" barreled T/C Contender carbine in 223 that gives me 1 1/4" 3 shot groups @ 300 yards but I already have it.

I know you are thinking lever but a Encore in 223 may work for you.

I grew up learning to shoot with a Browning BL22 22LR just sold it a couple years ago to a buddy and bought a new black/gray laminate s/s BL22 22LR to replace it paid like $800.00 plus so who am I to talk...

I was just noticing that Savage used to fit their Scout sight system to other rifles besides the one it came on (the Savage Scout rifle). It's no lever, but I think I'd be happy with this on my Model 10, if the price was reasonable. It'd be a lot cheaper than $1400... I wouldn't have a .223 lever, but the leftover money from that $1400 would probably buy a couple .30-30s :D
