Looking for a 223 and choices are down to 2 for what I want. CZ527 and Tikka T3 Lite. Which of these 2 would you take and why? Accuracy?

I'm looking at the same gun myself. I'm leaning heavily towards the CZ though. It's a mini Mauser, so the gun should be relatively trim and small. The stock is also way better than the Tikka. Both guns do have great reputations for quality and accuracy so you can't go wrong either way.

I already have a SA 700, so for me a neat little mini Mauser fits the bill nicely. I've toyed with the idea of the .20's, but when you get down to it the pure availability of components for the .223 makes it an easy choice, and it doesn't really give up much to the bigger .20's. Spinning on a .20 barrel down the road is easy enough too.

Are you saying this is convertable to a 204 down the road? Whoa Nelly thats a trip. Hadnt thought of that. Me, I got a bucketload of brass and been buying deals off the ee for a while so the 223 and 30cals will be tuned up shortly. Just about to get into reloading and everything is ready to roll. Got enough for bricks...

Not push button convertible, you'd have to take it to a gunsmith to have a new barrel installed, but that's it, bolt face would be the same so there's nothing more you need to do.

Also if you've got so much .223 brass you might as well go the 20 Tactical route as it's simply a .223 necked down.

I've owned a CZ527 and a Tikka 595 in .223 which was the model before the T3.

Between the two I liked the Tikka better. Having shot a couple of T3's they are very similar in handling to the earlier model. The only drawback of the T3 is the long action length for a tiny cartridge.

The 527 is a trim little rifle that was equally accurate. Mine shot well but had some issues.

The magazine that came with mine had lips that were so sharp they cut deep gouges into the brass. Mine went to a gunsmith to have the edges smoother.

No matter how it was adjusted the single set trigger was either too heavy in the non-set position or dangerously light when set.

The deal breaker for me was the operation of the safety. All of my other rifles pushed forward to fire. The CZ was the reverse. I thought I could get used to it by imagining I was "cocking" the rifle but after a lifetime of pushing forward to fire I couldn't adapt to doing it in reverse.

The Tikka was traded off when I discovered a lovely Sako 75 in .223.

I have a CZ527 in .204 and a Tikka T3 Lite in .223. I can echo most of Claybuster's comments. I think overall I probably prefer the Tikka. (Probably why I'm looking to buy another Tikka in .204).

The CZ is "good looking" and has a nice wood stock, but the magazine does have sharp edges that will scratch brass and doesn't feed terribly well until after a bit of "break in". It does shoot very well, though.

The Tikka, on the other hand, is not a "supermodel" and has a synthetic (albeit extremely durable) stock, but feeds without complaint, the synthetic magazine is an asset rather than a liability, and it also shoots very well.

Both are good choices but.. Have you looked at the Remington 700 VTR varmit tactical rifle? I just saw it in the S.I.R. catalog, looks tempting.

Well, seems I committed to the dealer here and the CZ was the way I went. It has the features I want. I already have a CZ452 leftie and it is a sweet 22.
I expect the same from the CZ527 and it is one of the few rifles easily available in leftie. The true short mech appeals and any trimming/fitting will be dealt with. I will take it down to Barry Jensen at Bits of Pieces and get a good lookover. He deals with a lot of anal comp shooters so he cuts the crap right off and if he doesnt think it needs doing then he suggests against it. From all of my looking, this one just "feels" right. Im sure the Tikka is a great rifle but I have plastic issues and I am a hobby woodworker so I will give it a shot. The dealer (Reliable) gave me a bit of a break so should be in next week. Thanks for all the info. Seems either way I was going to be ok anyways. And that bit about the 20 tactical.... Hmmmm:)

FWIW I was looking at the 700SPS already and SIR has a leftie. Price is good too-$609.95. Still, plastic stock and floorplate. I would have to give up too much of what I had intended but I would have been happy Im sure and I would have an excuse to own a Remmie bolt. Besides, I like pretty shooters and plastic stocks dont do that for me.
