I've been laying around with my Remington 700 SPS-Varmint lately and was wondering what has worked well for you guys. I've tried a few different factory loads including some Remington Premier Match.

Is anyone hand-loading with this rifle and what kind of success have you had.

since it's a 1:12 twist you'll likely have best accuracy with bullets in the 40-55gr range. I'd try some 52gr or 53gr Sierra matchkings or 50/55gr Nosler BT or Hornady Vmax, over Hodgdon Benchmark

what sort of results did you get with factory ammo?

Plenty of SPS owners have boasted of sub .5MOA accuracy with hand loads. I have one in 204 that is .5 moa. The reality with any and all factory guns is some are exceptional, some are crap, and the majority fall somewhere between. Expect 1MOA and anything better than that is gravy. A proper hand load WILL outerform factory by a fair margin.

You have a great rifle there and I odds are it can be made to do well under 1MOA with practice and with good loading.

Although I don't have that exact rifle, I do have a 1 in 12 twist rate. I use winchester brass, 25.5 grains of benchmark and a sierra 52gr matchking BTHP. Shoots extremely well out of my rifle. OAL 2.26"
I'd still be using that load as it works extremely well out of my rifle. I just have trouble finding those bullets at times so I load the 50gr V-max instead which also shoot very well but not as good as the sierras.

You should look into ordering bullets from Sinclair Intl in the states (no affiliation). A couple years back I successfully ordered a 500 count box of 69 gr SMK from them with no problem. I don't know if the import/export rules have changed in the past few years, but it doesn't hurt to contact them and ask.

52gr Hornady BTHP Match
26.5gr of Hodgdon Varget
2.280" COL
Win brass
Win SR primers

Prints sub-MOA groups and kills groundhogs splendidly.

Sierra 52gr. FB bullets are equally good. If your rifle won't shoot these exceptionally well, chances are you've got a less than great barrel. These bullets have long been regarded as the gold standard for short range accurcy.
