I know the .223 is in use in many infantry roles, but I'm just wondering, is the .223 used by any precision snipers or tactical teams in a military/le role?

I'd imagine it's uses are limited considering the larger rounds available...

Don't know the letters used but yes, the 223 and heavy bullets are used for LR 'plinking' by the US forces overseas.

The 77gr MK has proven effective out to 600yds. Maybe further????

Maybe DMR???

anyways, if you can put the slug where you want it, it will slow a soft target down.

Here in BC no law enforcement teams use .223 for precision shooting. It's primarily .308 here. Although most teams are trying tp acquire .338's as supplemental caibers. At least one has a .50 bolt gun.

On Some teams their snipers run 4 power optics on their entry guns to get a designated marksman type of role out of thay system. But as far as i know that is the closest to precision LE uses .223 for in BC.

There are 223's being used in a spotter role with some teams now using a 7.62 mm like a SR25 for example.
