So I have limited my choices to the follwoing, caliber has to be .223.

- Remington 700 CDL (1/12 Twist)
- Sako T3 Lite (1/8 Twist)
- Savage 12bvss (1/9 Twist)
- Mini-14 Target mdl (1/9 Twist)

tell me the pluses and minuses of each rifle as you see it.... gun will be used for coyotes and other light game like lynx, couger and bobcat.

Just going by barrel twist I would go with 1-8 or 1-9. The Sako and Savage are probably the two most accurate.

the question arises though do I need to go above 55 grains for medium range shots.... 250 yds maximum say. will the faster twist rate help with the 45 gr if I decide to go that low ?

I have shot several 1:8 twist Sako's and Tikka's and the are great permormers with the light bullets. And with the heavier bullets they really shine.
M,O,O,N... that spells Moon.:D

The 1-in-12 twist with 55 gr (possibly 60 gr, you'd have to try it) bullets will serve you out to 300 yards for sure. But its nice to have that option of using heavier bullets and getting some extra reach with the 1-in-8 or 1-in-9 twist, and they will still shoot the 45 gr bullets just fine.

I couldn't believe my eyes the first time out I tried my Tikka T3 Lite with factory Winchester 45gr JHP from Walmart and I got a 3 shot group at 100 yards with all 3 touching.

I'm so looking forward to reloading for this gun. :D :dancingbanana:

I have an older Sako A1 laminated and I love it, I can break peices of broken clay out to 385 metres with it and it only weighs a little over 8 lbs with a 4x12x40 Nikon Monarch scope. I shoot 55 gr vmax bullets over varget and/or H335 at just over 3100 fps from a 22 inch barrel.

a 40-55 grain will work just fine out to 300 yards and a 1:12 twist is perfect. Id go with the 700 CDL, its a classy rig
