.223 or 5.56 in an AR-15

I just bought my first AR-15 (DPMS). It's chambered 556, but somebody told me that even though .223 is safe to shoot, that it isn't good for the AR, is there truth in that?

What are the advantages/disadvantages of running either ammo through it?

Barrel on your rifle stamped 5.56 correct?

Then your safe to shoot either 5.56 ammo or .223 ammo.

You're good to go and shoot .223 ammo thru your rifle or the mil-spec 5.56 ammo

You find .223 more readily available and usually cheaper. Of the thousands of rounds I've shot in my AR's, I can safely say that very little of it has been 5.56mm.

You will not hurt a 5.56 chambered rifle shooting 223 ammo in it. Have fun with the new rifle.
