I just bought my first AR-15 (DPMS). It's chambered 556, but somebody told me that even though .223 is safe to shoot, that it isn't good for the AR, is there truth in that?

What are the advantages/disadvantages of running either ammo through it?

Thanks!

You find .223 more readily available and usually cheaper. Of the thousands of rounds I've shot in my AR's, I can safely say that very little of it has been 5.56mm.

Before listening to "somebody" and before asking questions it's usually a good idea to check the stickies at the top of the page and see if the answers are waiting for you.

This and many other questions get asked every week it seems, Do a little research first then ask if you can't find an answer.
Enjoy your rifle with 5.56 and .223.
Why didn't you post a picture of it?
