.223 or 7.62x39 858?

Tough one, have both and the bonus of the 7.62 is cheap ammo. The VZ in .223 is more accurate as I put a scope on it and converting to take LAR mags so do like the .223.

Buy both.

I bought a VZ58 in 223 from delsellins in Vernon and put a beautiful wood stock set on it and I own a cz858 in 30 cal, I loved the vz craftsman ship it was fun to shoot but I sold it and still own the 30 cal??? if that's any help to you nothing beats the 7.62 for crazy plinkin fun!!! and if ya want to hunt as well!! I know a few fellas who use the 30 cal for deer hunting no sweat at all!!

I like the 7.62x39 over the .223 . BUT with either one if you are shooting mil surp(or any questionable) ammo CLEAN THE ENTIRE GUN after every session, even if someone says it is non corrosive . Clean the gun after each range visit and you should be happy, otherwise you may have a rusted action/ gun in a matter of a day or two .

X39 all the way. The rifle was designed for that cartridge and it is very cheap in surplus. I just do not like seeing soviet/commie firearms in a NATO chambering

Ive owned both ... I still have the .223 and sold the x39 ... however , thinking of getting another x39 and having both. If I had to have one im starting to think I would take the x39

I have a 7.62, picked it up a few months ago. I went with it because of the cheaper ammo, and the ability to take a moose down with it this fall if I end up getting a license and still don't have something designed for longer range.

I love it, awesome to shoot, looks great, easy to clean. Great gun in either caliber.

+1 for 762. I added the B&T magwell adapter so it uses LAR mags and it's really fun to shoot. One day, maybe, I will go hunting with it too. Originally when it was stock, I thought it had a bit of kick to it, but once I got a muzzle brake on there and a new stock, it tamed down considerably.

If you can afford it, buy both!!!!:p

I can't, so I chose the 7.62x39 858 because of the cheap surplus ammo available.

My next rifle might just be a VZ58 in .223.

What's the point of buying a military rifle if you don't use the round that the military uses?? It's like buying an AR15 chambered in 30-06??

7.62x39 for the following reasons: availability of cheap surplus ammo, the cartridge is suitable for deer and there is a ready availability of hunting ammo and, lastly, it is the ammo the rifle was designed to shoot.

I bought two of the .223 rifles.

But you know what? I still kind of want a 7.62 as well!

"...yalls..." There ain't no plural form of 'ya'll'. Ya'll is already plural and not at the same time. snicker.
What do ya'll plan on doing with the rifle?
