What is everybody using in their .223? I have a 1:9, and I would like to load 55 SP or vmax or maybe even 53 vmax. I did a search, H335 and IMR 3031 are popular, as is varget (harder to find though?). What does everyone suggest?

+1 for IMR XBR 8208. Been using it in a 1:9 barrel. I've only used the 40gr V-Max in my .223. Shoots so good I never tried anything else. I really like this combo, coyotes hate it.

Just started reloading .223 and bought some Varget to start with for my 55 grain fmj. Fired about 70 reloads with 25.5 Grains of it and it cycled really well. I will definitely try some other powders in the future but this one seems not too bad for now!

Varget, H4895 (a damn near universal military calibre powder), Win BLC2.....

H4895 uses virtually all the case capacity with a warm 55gr+ load.

I use H335 with 55 gr hornady red tips. This load will one-hole/cloverleaf at 100 yds. We shoot the primers out of shotgun shells for s**tsandgiggles.

Good luck with your reloading endeavours.

CS45

oh ya, got the powder from Higginsons.

Reloader 15 (27.8 grains) with 50 grain Hornady (#2245) for my 223 shoots amazing, even with me on the trigger.:D Same goes for Sierra 55 grain (#1345) with 27 grains of Reloader 15. Both are compressed loads and near/at max IIRC, and work well in my rifle, may not in your rifle. Always start with a lower powder charge when working up a load.

H 335 or Tac. they flow thru the powder measure easy and give top speed.

What sort of twist are you shooting. I've been using benchmark (works great) and tried x-terminator (works okay, meters very well) and looking for a replacement that will work well in the 308 as well.
