I'm just getting into precision shooting and bought a varmint .223 so I'm looking for a scope now. Any suggestions for a mid priced range scope that would be suitable for long range? Exposed adjustable turrets or not?

Very new to Percision shooting , I have been working on a Remington 700 sps .223 , in a MDT LSS chassis. I have plans on mounting a Leupold mk4 but am saving my pennies, for the mommet I have a Leupold Riflemen on the rig. Not the scope ones looking for on a PR rig but in the interm Ive actuall been impressed with the the groups I been getting with the Rifleman. I yet have to test at longer ranges but a 5 shot group smaller than a quarter at 100 yard is fine with me until I upgrade. I also have a Falcon 5.5x50 mounted on a 455 trainer but would not dare to use that optic on the Remington but its a great .22 scope. Looking forward to the PR courses this coummity has to offer.

I put a leupold mark ar 4-12x on mine and really like it so far. They make a 3-9model too which is around $500. Exposed turrets. 0.1mil adjustments. It has bdc markings for 55 gr 223 loads at 3100fps but i just use the 0.1mil markings underneath. I would strongly recommend whatever scope you get to have matching reticle and turret adjustments. Makes life much easier.

I'll be putting a Nightforce NXS 5.5-22x56 on my Cadex custom EM Precision build bolt gun. And a 1-4x24 Nightforce NXS on my ATRS Modern Varminter semi-auto. Sorry, but these are at the higher end of the price scale.

The Sightron SII line would be something to look into. Great glass for the price, and reliable. But the Burris veracity 3-15 is on for 799$ at Sylvesters sporting goods. From what I have heard, it's a hell of a scope for that price. And ffp to boot.

I got mine ordered from Corelane, $850 . I've read good things and someone on CGN commented that the one they have is excellent. I seen them on EBay or Amazon.ca for $699 after discounts. There don't seem to be a lot of good scopes in the $700 to $800 range. The only other scope I considered was a couple of used 4-14 VX 3 on the EE , for $800 .

You want target knobs. Look for a good used Leupold varmint scope with adjustable objective. Or an old steel Weaver T series target scope.
I have been very pleased with my Sightron 6-24 LRMOA, and just bought a Leupold Mk. IV. These are outside your price range, though.
I have had two Falcon Menace scopes fail on me, one on a .223, the other on a .308. Either the old Weaver or used Leupold would be a far better buy.
Also have a Bushnell 6500 on another rifle, these would be worth considering. And a couple of older Redfield Golden Five Star 6-18s.

I have been impressed with the offerings in the Bushnell Tactical Elite line of scopes and have several on my "go to" black guns and their flagship model on my LR precision rig.
This series has great elevation and windage knobs that are easy to read and the glass is Bausch & Lomb quality, so you won't be left with a washed out or grainy sight picture. Repeatability is as it should be and they come with a lifetime warranty, so you don't have to worry if something happens to it.

You can get a 5-15x40 Tactical Elite for around $500.00=+ tax and that would leave you enough for a set of decent rings or a 1 piece mount.

Ya I was gonna buy one so did a lot of research on the Veracity's and they are supposed to be very good scopes for the money. Especially in ffp

Ya I have a 5-15 on my Savage. Great scope for the money. They are on Amazon for about 450$ right now. Really sturdy scopes. And made in Japan as well.

I know nothing about the veracity, but there's sure been a lot of buzz about them lately.

Vortex PST's are likely out of your budget, unless someone is giving it away....

A Vortex HS LR would work for you though....
