I tried the search function so apologies in advance if I missed something. I have a new Savage 10FP in .223 and would like to know from fellow CGN members what the consensus is for a preferred handload for this model. Thanks for the intel.

.223 load

D'oh - sorry, I should have mentioned that this load is strictly for target practice from 100 - 300 yards ( max distance of available ranges close to where I live ). This rifle won't be used for varmint etc applications.

I have the gun you are talking about and my load,
not so much a target load 'cus it's pretty whizzy
but none the less, damn accurate!
26.0gr of Varget pushing a 68gr. HPBT Hornady match.

A little fast for putting holes in paper but those bullets
just go EXACTLY where I point them.
Thought I'd tho it out there.

25 grains of H335 under a 52 smk. This load shoots little bugholes out to 200 yards. If there is wind, your groups will open at 300 yards. Otherwise this load shoots like a laser beam in everything I have tried it in. Do yourself a favor and try this load.

25 gr of W748 and ANY bullet you want. I've had success with this powder, over and over again. Great fun. All of my .223 rifles love this load as well as 25.0 gr of WC735 surplus ball powder (nice and hot for the 68 gr Hornady match bullet) out to 500meters.

Hope this helps,

Barney

Benchmark is excellent as well and had one 223 which loves
4895. Fairly easy to find a load with most powders in the class.

Withoutwarnings post is close to mine. 69 gr Sierra matchkings, 25.8 gr Varget, CCI SR BR primers. Rifle: Savage BTVSS 1:9 twist.

I shoot a little bit of both target and varmints. The bullet weight that I found that works best with my Savage model 12VLP is a 60 gr. V-max with 23 grains of H335. Anything lighter tends to wander too much.
