Varget is kind of annoying in that you end up with compressed loads, which depending on your load and bullet seater die, can have specific problems:
- seater die will start denting the bullet because of the high compressed load seating force required
- unable to get enough powder in to reach pressure signs or 'max' velocity
- COAL inconsistent due to compressed load bullet moving over time in cartridge
H4895 avoids all these issues, instead you'll end up with air space in the load pressure signs before compression.
I had good results with the Lapua 77g Scenars with VV N135 loaded to the max length allowed by the mag in my AR. (20 inch 1-7 twist).
As mentioned Varget, and VV N 140 shot well but were compressed loads, which is certainly managable, however,I wanted to be able to load progressivly on my D 650.
