I just got my first press and a couple die sets.
I thought I would start with making some brass for my 7.62 Tokarev.

But I can see the shoulder is not right. It does not have the definition of production ammo.
Dropping factory case into a barrel ,the ejector side of the rim is even with the barrel face.

Ones I make are .020 above the barrel face.I have the die butted up to the shell holder.
I have new Lee 7.62x25 marked die. Not Mauser dies. What could I be doing wrong.

Trim length correct?
Tried smoking the case to see where it is making contact?
Will a fired 7.62x25 sized in the die drop into the barrel correctly?

I have tried cutting the cases longer and shorter before sizing and then trimming to correct length.
I have not tried smoking the case but it may make it easier to get a picture.
I just went and size a brass case found at the range. It sits .008 higher than an unfired case.

The die only left a pencil line around the bottom of the shoulder.

Are you putting just a sized case in your pistol chamber or a case with a seated bullet.

Do you have a Vernier calipers to measure new and fired cases?

A black felt tip marker can also be used to color the case and see where it rubs in the chamber.

Some of us do not live in the bush off the grid and use kerosene oil lamps to smoke a case. Bazinga

Yes testing with out a bullet.
Yes have compared cases with my caliper. These eyes don't go down to .010 any more. :(

Hey I only have the Kerosene lamps for emergencies .I don't live in the bush either....any more.:)

First of all, what 223 brand of brass you are using?
Second, some 223 brass has thicker walls than others.
Third, some 223 brands of brass have smaller rims and thus not going to work with tok extractors.
Fourth, what brand of dies you have? Lee is one you have to have decapper to function properly, and rcbs has to have proper adjustment to form brass that was expanded after firing.
The best brass for this conversion to use is wincester or rp.
Any other brass will be nothing but headache.

When making your 7.62x25 pistol cases from a .223 rifle cases you will have several problems.
1. The converted rifle cases are thicker and the case will have less case capacity.
2. After forming, the case necks will be too thick and need to be reamed or neck turned.
3. Cases made for the military will be made of harder and thicker brass.
4. The .223 case has a .012 smaller base diameter than the 7.62x25
5. Your thicker .223 cases are not forming properly because they are thicker and you are having brass spring back after sizing.
6. You are a glutton for punishment because of all the work involved forming and making these cases from .223 brass.

And Starline brass makes 7.62x25 brass for $22.49 US dollars per 100 ea, so why bother going to all the work converting a thicker rifle case.

Can you buy 7.62x25 loaded ammo that can be reloaded?

If you can not order from MidwayUSA or direct from Starline could a American personally ship the cases to you in Canada.

I once in the spirit of Christmas shipped a STM rubber tumbler liner to a Canadian so far off the grid he had to use kerosene lanterns. (I think your Ice Road Truckers got it to him)

I know the OP chooses to do this, but FYI: Starline makes 7.62x25 as well as 30 Mauser brass.

In my TT33, I use either, interchangeably. I also use 30 Mauser (7.63x25) dies to reload for it, not 7.62x25.

Again, no issues in my gun.

HA! I see Ed beat me to it...

As mentioned above, its doable however, brass brand is important and if using thick cases after seating bullets necks will be deformed and with lee dies its known to have some runout.
It is a lot of work for little reward. If there was no brass available anywhere, then yes it makes sense to go through the trouble, but now we have plenty of new and surplus ammo. As well as starline brass from tradex can be obtained fairly easily. They always have stock.
If i was op i would just put effort in making some sort of brass catcher for shooting tokarev and preventing cases being lost.
