Has anyone ever taken a 223 and had the chamber reemed out to a 220 swift? Or would you need to change a lot of things like bolt face, extractor, magazine, etc.? I think the parent case is a 6mm navy, so maybe re-barrel a 243 action?

It's just an idea. And say a cheap savage 116 or 111. Both the gun and re-cutting the chamber I can get done for extremely cheap 400$ total. Unless it's changing bolts faces and megazine and all that, then it's not work it.

Same boltface, but the Swift is semi rimmed, so the body will be a smaller diameter.

A .223 barrel could be reamed to Swift. The barrel would have to be set up dead true in the lathe, and then a boring bar used to open the chamber until the Swift reamer could be started concentric with the bore.
A Savage bolthead could be changed.
The Swift is much longer than the .223, so there would be magazine issues.

It is a conversion that could be done, but is not a practical one, from the standpoint of cost - unless the owner could do it himself.

If it's a Savage , depending on the bolt style, a bolt head change is not a biggy, takes about a minute including switching the plunger, extractor, etc.
A barrel blank can be had easily,ad I'm sure there is more than one gunsmith out there with a swift reamer.
The biggest issue , of course, is the cost, especially when a 22/250 will run with the Swift, brass is easier to find, as are rifles already chambered in it.
Unless of course, one just HAS to build a 22 Swift !!

A .22-250AI is an alternative to the Swift. With a quick twist barrel and heavier bullets, long range performance is impressive.

Agree with most of this except, of course, the bolded part of the statement.

No 22-250 I have ever owned would "run with a Swift" unless the Swift had a 22" tube and the 22-250 a 26

The difference, given equal barrel lengths is close to 200 fps in favor of the Swift with 55 grain pills.

Now a 22-250AI will run right with a Swift, but feeding and other issues may show.

Regards, Dave.
