I am not sure exactly where to post this so moderators feel free to move it.

A few months ago while at the ancaster gun show there was a guy selling .223 tracer for $1 each. I decieded to give them a try so I picked up 20 of them. After sitting on my shelf for a bit I finally got around to taking a good look at them. Upon closer inspection these were some very poorly reloaded rounds. I pulled a few apart to find out that they were not tracer projectiles, just regular 55 grain FM J with a painted tip. I am not sure what powder was used, but there was 5 to 6 grain variation per round. Thankfully I did not shoot any of these rounds.

The guy who sells these only sells 223 tracers and 7.62x 39 Tracers at the show. I know the 7.62X39 tracers are fine as a few of my friends have bought them from him and had no issues. hopefully at the next show he will be there as I will be having a few words with him.

Also if you happen to be reading this and you are the person who sells this at the ancaster gun show please feel free to message me I would love to talk about this.

Just as well, I suppose. Tracers are illegal anyways (explosives act). Not that anyone with a badge seems to care either way.

any brand? tracers come in 55 and 62 gr m196 and m856 just an fyi 223 tracers lit after 100m so try them out when its really dark cause the bullet is so small you wont be able to see the trace at daylight

Tracers aren't illegal, its just illegal to import them from now on. Whatever is in Canada right now is all that there is.

Incorrect. It is actually illegal to: sell, buy, possess, import, transfer, trade, barter, eat, smoke, touch, think about, have ### with, send to college, etc etc etc tracers.

A member on here actually hooked me up with a link to the explosives act and the penalties and they are actually pretty severe (again, if anyone with a badge seemed to actually care enough to charge you).

Summary conviction - 2 years less a day plus $250,000 fine
Indictable conviction - 5 years less a day plus $500,000 fine

offences can be added up 'per day' they are committed

That same law also applies to all old factory ammo and old surplus ammo that's not on the current approved ammo list.

Hmmm, I've fired many tracers in 5.56 and I've been able to see them clearly during the day. Ricochet tracers are especially cool, belt fed even cooler.
