Recently, I bought a new .223 Vz 58 and made a range report for it. I've decided to do updated range reports once in awhile of the gun to show hows its doing. A lot of people have problems with the .223 Vz 58 so I'd like to keep updating groups and round count until I have a noticeable problem with the gun.
First, Here is a link to my first range report for this same gun.

Now the updated range report.

The gun is bone stock. Got it from Gone Fishing in Nanaimo and it was on sale. Might of been because of the scuff mark on the barrel and receiver but whatever. It so far has 130 rounds though it without any failures. No FTF, FTE, or stovepipes. The brass gets dented badly and in some cases, crushes the whole neck of the casing but I noticed today that my friends Mini-14 does the same thing then noticed it was only the Norinco .223 brass that both the guns were doing it to. I've so far have tried 45gr Winchester CXP1, Norinco 5.56x45 unknown grain, Federal Eagle 55gr, Winchester White Box 55gr, MFS steel case 55gr, and finally, Federal Eagle 62gr. There doesn't seem to be to much of a difference between all the different brands. The gun also seems to have tighter groups as more rounds are fired through it, breaking the gun in. Not sure if its the gun breaking in, or the user getting use to the firearm. The trigger was terrible stiff when I first got the gun, but now it has a nice smooth creep.

Funny thing, I forgot my glasses today when I went to the range. My eyes are terrible, especially with these soviet style sights. When I would aim, the targets would split into two targets, diagonally, and I wasn't sure which one was which. Either way, I'm pleased with the results and can't wait to try again when I remember to bring my glasses. This is the range, PRF&G (Pacific Rim Fish & Game) It extends out to 183m (200 yards) but someone has placed there own target stand at 274m (300 yards). I'm shooting today with my friends, Who has a Mini-14 with a scope, and were both shooting at 92m (100 yards). Special note, If you're a member of this range, and you know who the ####### is/are that keeps shooting the target boards up with there shotguns, please tell them to stop. There is a big sign that says "NO SHOTGUNS ON THIS SIDE OF THE RANGE!" for the reason these #######s destroy the target boards.

Here is the full target. The Lower right group was with Winchester 55gr White Box, The two groups above the center were Federal 55rg, and 62gr. Then the group to the left was Norinco 5.56x45. Each group were 5 rounds. With each brand of ammo, it was consistent 4 pretty well placed shots, with 1 major flyer. Some pictures of the groups up close.

I wasn't quite sure which was the flyer in this group so I counted both the one at the top and the one at the bottom, both off target, since they're both about the same length apart. This was shot with Winchester 55gr White Box and was 102mm (4") minus the flyer.

This is two groups made into one. The two groups were shot with 55gr and 62gr Federal Eagle. Like I said before, without my glasses, the targets split into two diagonally. The first group with the Winchester is where it is because I choose the first lower spot that I thought was the target. Then I tried the upper spot that I thought was the target. Kind of worked out well though since the groups are separate. This is 10 shots with 1 flyer with two different kinds of ammo. The group size was 102mm (4") minus the flyer.

This is a 5 shot group with the Norinco 5.56x45 with unknown grain. I marked the target with a ? mark 55gr. There is one flyer way up in the left corner if you look in the picture of the whole target. I was trying to make this group be in the center below the other two groups but again, no glasses. Other than that, The group isn't bad at all. The group is just under 76mm (3") minus the flyer.

The final result is, this gun is easily a 10 shot 102mm (4") gun at 92m (100 yards). Someone said to me these .223 Vz 58's are no better than minute of pie plate but they're easily minute of clay bird. I did some plinking with some MFS .223 and out of 10 shots, didn't miss a single thing. From 8" steel disk targets at 70m (76yards), to a turkey steel targets at 92m (100yards) to a pig silhouette steel target at 183m (200 yards). The pig target was really hard (no glasses) because I could barely see it when not aiming, then as soon as I was aiming, gone. I just guessed it and it hit 2 times. To bad there are no pigs to hunt around here or this would make a great pig rifle. I would like to try this again but with separate targets for each group and with my glasses. Then, Id really like to try getting a scope mount for this gun and see what it can do with an optic. I've grown a liking to the stock furniture so its staying the way it is for now.
