Please shut off your caps lock.
"...not many Varmits(sic) here..." No ground hogs, crow, fox, coyotes where you are?

just lettin you guys know that i have just recived a browning a-bolt madallion
in .223 wssm and have been gettin groups of no more than 1,1/4 inch at 300
meters with factory ammo...i was very amazed when i started shooting this gun
as its the most accurate gun i have ever had the pleasure of using and best of all this is a gun that has no modification what so ever! just straight out of the box,
has aney one else had the same kind of luck with the .223 wssm?
tnx

there was a recall on the rifles a year or so ago cause the accuracy was ####ty.
I know winchester did not sure about other manufacturers

"...WSSM may be discontinued in 2006..." Yeah, where'd you hear that? I'm just curious, but if you buy any firearm chambered in a brand new cartridge, you should always buy at least 500 cases at the same time. The marketing wallahs will discontinue anything that doesn't meet their sales projections.

.223 wssm

I wouldn't mind getting one! My cousin is getting <.5" at the back of our range (180 m.). I'm impressed, he's get a 10x 4200 on top. I've heard they had recalled some and put a sleeve in them do to heat up or barrel burn out.

Is the WSSM that much better than the regular .223 Win? I don't think so. The WSSM maintains velocity, trajectory and punch just slightly better, so the discontinuation might be a reasonable assumption.

Actually the .223 WSSM(3886 fps 55 gr. pill) offers about the same performance as the 70 year old .220 Swift(3839 fps 55 gr. pill) According to Hodgdon Powders reloading data. So it apears to me that the .223 WSSM is just a gimmick, or an answer to a question that nobody asked. As for accuracy, I've been told that the old Swift is deadly. At least I hope so, I'm getting one built.:)

I don't believe there is anything inherantly inaccurate about the round, possibly the rifles if there is a problem. I believe they load the factory rounds pretty hot to try and achieve the advertised velocities. I say this because I had one built with a 29" barrel and 1:9" twist, and factory Winchester ammo was too hot - had couple brass stick so, at the time, had to wait for brass to be available. Shoots like a red hot damn now though.

I myself own a 223wssm I also own a 22-250 both are deadly accurate I can't count the coyotes I shot with the 22-250, but I shot 11 so far this year with the 223wssm and it killed them all as dead as with the 22-250. I like the 223wssm its a great better mouse trap. A dead mouse is a dead mouse.

If you search the accuract forums in the US there is not a lot of good spoken about them. The biggest problem has been the quality of the brass I think.

If you need a hot .22 centerfire there are already many proven ones out there.... all the new short mags were created because the manufacturers needed something new to sell - not because they were any better.
