223rem to 204 ruger.

not sure if brass can be necked down to .204,
but if you have not chosen a rifle and caliber yet,
i personally would go for .223.
Way more versatile of a caliber.
Prairie dogs to coyotes and all things in between.
Brass is very plentiful and cheap to buy.
I get mine from lazy guys that dont pickup theirs.

I believe the 204 parent case is the 222 magnum.which is a bit different than the 223.someone else may have a better idea if it can be done.

I think your correct on that.
I seem to remember reading about it
on either Ruger or Hornady site awhile ago.
also the .204 is the actual caliber, and .223 use's bullets that are .224.

The 204 case is 47mm long the 223 is 45. The 204 Ruger is actually a 222 Magnum case necked down to 20 cal

A 223 case necked down to 20 cal is called a "20 practical" if you blow the shoulder out to 30 degrees, it is called a "20 Tactical"

The 204 is pretty damned hard to beat for ease of use, off-the-shelf rifles, and factory ammo. All of the above require custom reamers and dies.

I am looking for a rifle that shoots a small fast bullet with readily available brass. Can a 223 rem case be converted into 204 ruger.

There is no shortage of 204 brass. the only thing you can do with 223 brass is neck it down to 20 caliber , but then you are into a custom chamber. This chamber is known as a 20 tactical.
You can neck down 222 brass to 20 cal then you are into another custom called the 20 Extreme which was developed by a fellow here in Edmonton. FS
