This is aimed at those guys who have ACR's and for those planning to do MACDEF SLR builds, or even just a R700 SA in need of a new barrel. I'm curious if anyone thinking of doing a .224 valkyrie build.
I do like sticking to NATO rounds for affordability and availability but after reading up on this cartridge and I think I would really like to build a NR one.

so has anyone else been looking at this round? thinking about a build for it? a few manufacturers are already putting out AR15 uppers in .224 valkyrie, do those interest anyone?

You really need to look at your use of one - distance you’re shooting, type of shooting (competition, varmints, hunting, etc.) and evaluate whether it is worth it for you.
Most people limit the distance they shoot their auto-loaders to under 300m, which would give this round pretty much zero advantage over a .223.
Factor in the reality that 90 gr. Is the practical limit of a .224 bullet. If you throat it for 90s, how is it going to shoot lighter bullets?
If you shoot out beyond 600m though and don’t want to step up in size of rifle/cartridge, this looks like a good option to go along with the various 6mm and 6.5mm wildcats out there including 6mm AR / AR turbo and 6.5 Grendel. I think though that the 6 & 6.5mm options will have a better array of bullet selection available to them for long range shooting than what is available for .224.
I think it’s good for more options though and even better when a large manufacturer gets behind it.

I see that Savage is making an AR in .224 V

I’m curious about .224 as the future of small arms but was wondering if anyone can answer some questions I had.

Specifically, how does .224V perform our of 16, 14.5 and 11.5” barrels?

Does the .224v require a special magazine or will it fit in a regular-sized AR mag? How many rounds fit per mag?
