Anyone shooting these either in a soft point of SST with relative on game performance? I've had good accuracy with various .30 caliber SST's and SP's in the past, so I'm sure these will be on par, but how do they fair after plowing through large game? Anyone have any luck with these bullets that can share a story or two? Thank you.

I have not shot the 225s but i drove a nice black bear with a 250 sp Hdy and it performed excellent! in and out with a nice wound channel.

I charged it with Hodgdon Shortcut 4831.. you cant ask for better accuracy in my 338 T-3 with thos load.
Shoots the Interbonds about the same POI with the same load sp to Interbonds but i would use the Sp hands down again no issues at that velocity.

I use the 225 g SSTs. I use them basically for range shooting but did take them spring bear hunting in 2007. I shot one black bear, one shot, bang flop but it was only about 70 yards away. The bear was not huge but was about 3 years old. 6 foot rug.

The POI is the same between the accubonds and SSTs. The AB are slightly tighter

What velocities are you getting from 225 in 338WM.
I loaded 225 Tsx with IMR 4350 will chrono them once warmer...

I've used the Hornady 225gr. SP's on quite of few animals and they worked well, bang flops. On a broadside shot, bull moose the bullet ended up in the hide the far side. I did have one disintegrate when I shot a bull in the chest from 15ft. It did drop him in a hurry though, couldn't find the bullet after. I was getting 2900+fps 26"bbl. IMR4350 WLR primer

Pharoah, you may find them a little stiff opening on deer and such. I would use the 200 gr Hornady or the Sierra 215gr. Both would perform well at 2500-2600ish.

Pal of mine has used the soft points in his Vangaurd 338 Win Mag, one load for everything, ever since he moved to the Yukon. Drives them around 2800 fps and fills the freezer every fall.

I like to use them on bears at close range and also for "pest control" They're a good, accurate and inexpensive bullet to be shooting in my 338 for fun in the "off season"
Just my .02$

I just loaded up some 225 grain Hornady SST's w/ RL19 as my first "test load" in my Remington 700 Classic .338WM. I'll be shooting them tomorrow on paper.

I have some 225gr IB's that work well in my Classic with H4350. Also using the 225 SP.

I have Gary doing some Barnes 225 grain TSX up for my .338 we are trying reloader 22?? Any guesses on this being a winner??speed?

I'd guess 2790fps. This is a looooooong bullet and that is a slow burning powder that takes up room. I ran into the same problem with the 225gr. Accubond and found a slightly faster powder better, takes less room.

I'd bet the Barnes 210gr. TSX would be the better choice.

Thanks...Spitzer..I will let you know the speed when we do our test next week, I am gone for a few days teaching Paramedics a new MCI course..when back it will be firsts
first time using new Sako.338
first time using new loads
first time using new shooting rest I built

HMMM

I haven't taken my 338 hunting yet but do have a few great loads worked-up. I won't be able to wait until fall so, I'm sure some ground-hogs will help me try it out!!! :D

The Hornady 200 & 225 SP Interlocks shoot well in my Savage 111 with the following loads:

200gr Horn SP + 70gr H380

225gr Horn SP+ 69gr H4350

The best accuracy results (in this rifle) were with 200gr Nosler/Winchester Combined Technology Ballistic Silver Tips:

200gr BST + 70gr H380

This one produced a ragged little one hole 5-shot group at 50yds.

Check your reloading manual and work-up loads carefully. The H380 loads are HOT! They are at the top end of the powder weight-range as per Lyman 47th.

I look forward to trying all these at longer distances. I'll post pictures of the ground-hog testing (destruction) - hopefully next month.

I've heard two reports they're starting to pop up !!!!

Spring is near....
