As mentioned by tiriaq in Post #2 - a good chance it will work fine with a flat bottom commercial 98 cocking piece?? That would keep the trigger's protruding sear to remain depressed to open the bolt after firing. I do not remember all the brand names, but for sure some 98 triggers require a flat bottom cocking piece to work - others seem to work fine with either the commercial flat bottom or the military one with the upside down "V" on bottom.
I am not able to handle the appropriate heat treating afterwards, but in my spares box is a military one that someone filed and fitted in a "plug" - welded it (I think) and filed / ground to be smooth on sides and bottom, like a commercial one - I am not sure what that did to the hardened face of the cocking piece shoulder, though ...
