Anybody know where these kits are available in Canada... Preferably at a price somewhat in-line with what they cost in the 'States ?

Yep; looks like The Shooting Edge sells the Kimber "Target" conversion kit (either 1100043=black or 1100044=Silver) for $399 (+tax etc)...

for what you pay for these you may and may as well get a full 22 pistol- you can at least get a medium quality- or 2 norinco woodsman

I just love my Ciener kit on top of my Springfield Armory Loaded 1911. The .22 LR gets all of us in the family out and shooting the pistol so often. The .45 top end only gets out for competitions. I bought 2 more .22LR magazines from Brownells. Best fun I can have with a .22 pistol.

Yes, you can get another .22 pistol for the same price as a kit, and sometimes even cheaper than the kit with extra magazines, but frankly, I love training with my Springfield frame... very fast switchover and transferable skills on the controls. All of my kids and also my wife just love this convesion kit.

Hope this helps,

Barney

For $400 for a .22 conversion kit for a 1911, I agree you might just be better off getting a brand new Ruger 22/45 from Wholesale Sports for $310...

Still a .22 conversion atop a 1911 is kinda cool...Here's my Colt unit:

Speckfire: You got that right. I love the grip, the thumb safety (ambi), the hammer and all the controls that already come with my .45 Springfield Armory Loaded. I did have another .22LR pistol, but I was never happy with the controls and their locations. For some reason, the Springer fit my hand so well, I could not resist buying it. It's one of those situations where you just grab it and it becomes a part of your hand.

Life is good,

22LR 1911 conversion kit

If you want a 1911 22 conversion kit that will make you the best shot you're going to be I have just one word for you - MARVEL

The others are good (my Stainless Ciener looked gorgeous on my Springfield and shot well) but you can't beat a conversion guaranteed to shoot under 1" at 50 yards, even if it is another $100-$150 dollars more than the others. Mine came with a test target of 3/8" at 50 yards. That's better than a lot of rifles can do.

If you can afford one, buy a Marvel.

3/8" at 50 yards ?? .......me thinks that is better than any hand gun fired by a person . Must have been a robot :D Wife and I really like the Kimber rimfires .

Freedom Ventures had a few Marvel Kits FS.

~500.00

Marvel are accurate because they offer a fixed barrel and work like most target pistols where only the rear of the slide moves.

Nitehawk check out the Marvel website to see amasizing groups.

Each conversion unit is test fired from a Ransom Rest with premium ammo.

I am told that P&D enterprises is getting the Wilson Combat kit in in early 2006...

Price will probably be somewhere north of $500 (+taxes etc)

Apparently The Wilson Combat Kit is really the Ciener kit with a few modifications... high visability sights, front cocking serrations...

Seems there's now yet another option, in addition to the 5 manufacturers listed above.

Advantage Arms now has a 1911 conversion available:

...and a target version on the way.

One nice feature that I believe none of the other conversions have: Last-round lock-open.

While it sounds like he hasn't imported any of these yet, Jo at Police Ordnance tells me that that this kit will likely sell for C$385 (same as the AA Glock kit).

Supposedly, the Marvel Precision "Unit 1" is the most accurate 1911 conversion out there; because the barrel is locked to the frame (only the slide moves).

Also one of the more-expensive, at a list price of US$370+.

Sheila from Marvel confirms that Marvel does not currently have a distributor in Canada...
She mentioned that if there is anyone interested in being the dealer in Canada, she would be interested in hearing from them.
