22LR Ammo for use in 10/22

Last night I put 500 Winchester Super X Standard Velocity through my new ruger. Can't comment on accuracy since no bipod or scope on it but I was getting pretty nice groups with the iron sights though.

500 rounds (-2 for a couple that looked bent so i didn't load them) with no FTF/FTE.

Used the the stock rotary mag as well as two buttler creek steel lip high cap mags.

My gun shoots everything accurately, but the really cheap, soft ammo gets jammed, about 1 in 25 though, so whatever I shoot, I just make sure that it is half decent quality, and I never have a problem

cci minimags, take a close look at the ammo, very consistent, smooth edges on the bullet so nothing to hang up on when feeding consequently feeds excellent, cycles the bolt superbly (mini mag) and is sufficiently accurate in the 10/22 ( not notorious tack drivers) EXCELLENT semi-auto ammo. No ftf with this ammo

I've shot everything except Remington stuff through mine (personal bias as a result of some first-hand experiences of it through a friend's rifle coupled with some online reading) and everything has cycled fine. I have upgraded the extractor to the VQ extractor, and that fix alone seems to have eliminated any problems. It'll feed anything, no matter how fast I pull the trigger, through the factory barrel. We'll see if the introduction of the Dlask barrel introduces any gremlins (with the obvious exception of not being able to use stingers).

I can say though, neither my 10/22 nor Savage MKII likes the Fed 525 packs for accuracy, but it's still clean and relatively cheap plinking ammo.

Replace the rear pin with a bolt buffer and it won't be an issue...

Chamfer the back of your bolt and they will cycle fine. I use subsonics almost exclusively in my 10/22.

This also reduces stovepipes with a lot of different ammo...

Good tips!

+1

Great tips!

Stay away from that wax covered Russian crap ammo as it will gum up your rifle. All other ammo fires well out of the 10/22 with the original Ruger rotary magazines. If you get some BC steel lips 25 rd mags, use only round tip ammo. The "squared" type can jam in the aftermarket mags. I recommend you also learn how to strip your 10/22 early on. It is good practice to know your gun well. The 10/22 is easy to strip & reassemble. Have fun...

Vermin --- Stingers Stingers Stingers!!!
Target --- American Eagle
Plinking --- Win 333 or just about anything cheap

Federal 510B is good. If you put a Volquartsen extractor, you won't have stovepipes and it will feed any target ammo.

I use Eley and Lapua Club in a tight target chamber with almost no issues.
