After so many years of playing with these things, there are STILL questions that make me feel stumped sometimes!

These two items have me scratching my bald head right now. 16 cents/pop vs. 12 cents/pop:

https://www.gotenda.com/product/cci-standard-velocity-22lr-40-gr-lead-round-nose-box-of-100/

https://www.gotenda.com/product/cci-standard-velocity-ammunition-22-long-rifle-40-gr-lrn-box-50/

What's the diff between them? Can someone please set me straight? Thanks in advance! :)

I would say for all intents and purposes that they are the same. Same brand, bullet & velocity but different packaging. Although I did read someones online musings that they thought that CCI standard in one packageing was 'better' than the other. They may have just seen a lot to lot diffrence between them in their rifles.

You could always ask the good folks at Cascade Cartridge if there is any difference, but I'm pretty sure they would reply that there is not.

There was another thread about this very thing a few months ago. I want to say someone said they are made in two different locations, hence the difference in packaging. It would be worth trying to search for that thread.

That's what I am thinking.
For the "value minded" guys like myself the cost per trigger pull is what really matters!
That seems to be the case with these actual products, which seem to be the same, with the only difference being the PACKAGING.

Thank you! I actually did a search on the topic before starting this thread, but I will try again to find it.

Cronograph and a little target shooting will show any differences if any. I've learned to never rely on the numbers on the box however this is CCI so I would think they are both great quality.

The quote below is from Rimfire central in 2008 that may confirm a difference but alot could change In that many years though.

CCI SV doesn't group too well in my MTR, groups good in my buddies RPR, I would have been better off spending the money on mini mags for the 10/22's for gophers.

"All the recent talk about inexpensive standard velocity ammo got me to thinking about the differences between CCI Standard Velocity #0032 (100 round plastic boxes) and #0035 (50 round cardboard boxes). I've searched the archives here and read a number of different stories, but none of the info was particularly consistent, so I decided to email CCI with the question and I actually got a quick response.

Specifically, I asked about the product that is available in the shops now (i.e., I wasn't asking for a history lesson, so this might not have been the case a year ago). I was told that when 0032 and 0035 are both made at the CCI facility in Idaho, they are identical. However, occasionally 0035 is made by Federal at their Minnesota plant using Federal components, resulting in a slightly higher velocity.

So how can you distinguish Federal 0035 from CCI 0035? The headstamp is C on both versions. The only way to be sure is to check the lot number. CCI lot numbers begin with a letter, e.g. "B24P16". Federal lot numbers begin with a number, e.g. "2BV593". This jibes with my fairly small sample of CCI and Federal ammo.

Anyway, that's the current story from CCI for current product. It makes sense to me, but I have no way to really check it out. If somebody has some 0035 that doesn't look or shoot like 0032, they might check the lot number to confirm its origin. I'd be interested to hear the results"

Really interesting, thanks for sharing.

I recently ran both side by side over my Chrono, there is a slight velocity difference and the 50 Rd had a higher SD, but somehow shot better in the rifle I was using.

Bought a case of the cardboard packaged version around Christmas.. thought it was the plastic cased.

I know it’s not logical, but I would have paid more for the plastic cased, easier to store and dispense. But that’s just me.

Other than that, it’s the same as far as I can tell, agree with the above likely manufactured in different factories.

I have a LOT of experience with both. I can take some picures sometime if desired. Trust me, they're different rounds. I won't pretend to know why, but I do know they're different. In my experience, the ones in the 100rd plastic tray are superior.
