I have a few different .22's now -
2 X 10/22's
BL-22 (for my daughter)
Brno ZKM452 (model 2E)

I've only used the Federal bulk pack cheapo stuff so far and I don't find it very accurate and I've had a few fail to feeds in my 10/22's and MANY fail to feeds in the BL-22.

What do you folks feed your various rifles? I just picked up some CCI Stingers and would like to see how well I can shoot the Brno with these.

So, what ammo works best for you in your various .22 rifles?

I've actually had good luck with the Federal bulk pack #745. So far my R22 likes the Federal #710 gameshok the best.

The #745 is what I was using. My daughter was shooting the BL-22 and it kept misfeeding. I told her to give it more authority and when I showed her "how to do it" it misfed. I'm wondering if I should get a smith to look at this. BUt, the stuff didn't always feed right in my 10/22's...

Anybody else have a BL-22?

I'll check out the Mini Mag, too. Where do you buy Eley?

(and thanks for the replies!)

I've had really good luck with federal 40 grain solids, the little savage mark II really likes them. Also stay away from the winchester, and remington bulk packs that is some of the worst stuff out there.

Other than the discontinued Win Power Points, I haven't heard anything good about the Winchester rimfire ammo. Pretty much the same with Remington.

I have a Savage rimfire and everything works good with it but the CCI stingers for some reason. It jams all the time but other then that, everything goes through pretty good.

There is only one way to find out, and that's buy some of each brand/type of ammo out there, and run it through the rifle at a paper target. Good ammo for one rifle may be buckshot in another. I've seen the results in my own testing, the differences are astounding. And there is no way to predict the results either.

If you're lucky, your rifle will like everything, or the cheap stuff the best. If you're unlucky, it'll be only expensive target ammo. If you're REALLY unlucky, it won't like anything.

Fire at least 2 5-shot groups at about 50 yds with each ammo. 25 yards is too short as everything 'looks' fine, but at 50 some can really open up. At 75 yds wind becomes a factor.

Happy testing!

my 22s seem to like american eagle on the cheap end of the spectrum. i use it for offhand practice & plinking.

target ammo? RWS , federal green tag, federal gold, eley club and remington target ammo. whatever is going for the best price. they all seem to work equally good.

eley target & federal gold medal also work EXTREMELY well but i refuse to pay that kind of coin.
i'm not that good a shot that it makes THAT much difference offhand.

Are you sure they are disscontinued? I thought they were just changing location (the plant that manufactures them).

without reading anyones post and just going by the title of the thread my answer would be:

Whatever ammo your gun likes ;)

X2... this has been discussed previously, always same conclusion. What might work good in one rifle doesn't necessarily mean it will work well in yours

For as much as that is true, isn't it funny how often some types of ammo get mentioned, IE cci mini-mags. I think here are some safer bets out there, but conversly there is no replacement to trying as much as you can.

Say it ain't so! I love Power Points: feed well, consistent and deep hollow points. I just bought 2 bricks at Wholesale a couple of weeks back, but I hope they're not going extinct.

As for what works best, I've only found that wildcats suck. Everything else shoots fine by me (including Velocitors, Stingers, Mini Mags, Thunderbolt, Power Points, Federal 38gr hp, Am eagle 38gr hp)
