22LR ammo - what works best?

Well, without asking I knew the answer would be "whatever your gun likes best" along with "try as many different types as you can".
I just thought I'd find out what you folks like. It seems that the good ol' Win Power Points are getting a few nods of approval. The guy I bought the Brno off said he tried tons of different ammo and that was what he found to be best for accuracy.
Thanks for the replies and keep 'em coming.
As for the Federal bulk pack I've gone through over 400 rounds and no fail to fires yet but a feeding problem in the BL-22 and I fear that's the rifle. I just don't find them very accurate... although I fear that's me... :D

Strangely enough I found the Wildcats work well in my 22s, and so does the mini mags, power points and dyna points. All seem consistent and reliably accurate. Stingers however are all over the place, not accurate at all. Rem stuff I never liked, the quality is not up to Win or CCI imho.

My little Annie likes the cci blazer, federal classic, american eagle...really chummy with Fed Gold..winchester target, rem yellowjacket....not happy with cci stingers, rem thunderbolts and worst of all..win wildcats and rem t22

+1 for the PowerPoints.

Just bought a new CZ452 American and topped it with a cheapo Simmons 22Mag 3-9X. After 10 shots zeroing the scope, 1st group of 5 at 50yds measured .456", second group of 5 measured .315". I think I may keep this rifle !!!

Every gun is an individual so what you need to do is buy several different types of ammo in small quantities and get out there on a calm day with a good rest and try them all.

Once you find a type of ammo that shoots well, buy lots of it from the same lot number if possible.

In my 22's, Winchester power points always seem to do well. Definately capable of inch groups at 100 yds if your gun likes'em .

mell my 22's for plinking get fed what ever is cheapest at the time
for more serious and hunting stuff i use either quickshok*when i can find them* or velociters both by cci but like it has been said before just keep trying the differnt kinds until you find what your specific 22 likes some can be very finicky

BL 22 and CZ amo

I have a few different .22's now -
2 X 10/22's
BL-22 (for my daughter)
Brno ZKM452 (model 2E)

I've only used the Federal bulk pack cheapo stuff so far and I don't find it very accurate and I've had a few fail to feeds in my 10/22's and MANY fail to feeds in the BL-22.

What do you folks feed your various rifles? I just picked up some CCI Stingers and would like to see how well I can shoot the Brno with these.

So, what ammo works best for you in your various .22 rifles?

For the Bl 22 I got the best groups (and that includes Eley 10X) with RWS Target. For the CZ the Eley is tops.

Tried some red box federal today , suck would be an under statement. Slingers or something like that , I won't even go look at the box , what crap.
CCI stingers worked well today. And 37 grain grey box winchesters, hollow point jacketed also worked well. Wildcats were so so.

today I tried,

- PMC Zapper, 40gr solid
- Remington Thunderbolt 40gr Solid
- CCI Mini Mag

the CCI really opened my eyes, at 100 yds it was a sub-moa decent group..... the rest where over a MOA

Another view..

I had a very nice Hamden High Standard Match Trophy a few years back and it was very accurate (and would ONLY feed) CCI Standard Vecocity rounds..

I was told the standard velocity rounds were more accurate than high velocity because the "didn't break the sound barrier" and therefore didn't have the slight tumble associated with that process.

More than likely the whole senario was horse poop, but that's what I was told and that's the ammo that the High Standard Armorer tailered the pistol to fire reliability. I still have 1000rds of the stuff put away, but the pistol was more trouble than it was worth. I traded the High Standard for a pristine Colt Cobra DS.

In my 50+ years of firearms ownership I think the best all around rimfire pistol I have ever owned is the Ruger Standard 22. Not too expensive to purchase, not ammo sensitive, very accurate.. Just shoot it until it malfunctions, clean it, and start all over again. Crimson Trace even makes a Crimson Trace Lasergrip for them..

The old Ruger Standard 22 is hard to beat.

Best Wishes,

JP
