.22LR and matching larger caliber?

... Browning made A Bolt rifles in 22 LR , 22 mag and many other larger calibers on the same platform . Excellent rifles, the idea was to have a practice rifle in .22 with the same weight and feel as the high powers.

Nah Sillymike, does not have to be current production, good point. Doesn’t have to be exactly the same stock, a pair that have the same action and a really similar stock would do, so when I switch out to the larger caliber it already feels familiar and all the practice from the .22 will pay off. Both those Rugers (cheers rhino) and A bolts look great.

I’d prefer the.22 to have a 20” barrel for canoe camping and pushing through brush. The CZ’s look awesome but I couldn’t find open sights combined with 20” barrel, will make some enquires.

I have several T-3's so the only logical .22 RF would be a Tikka T1x.
The T1x has interchangeability with the T3 stocks, with slight modification around the bolt release on some stocks like a McMillan.
The T1x is small game capable to well past 100m, mine has a 10x SWFA.
Would only consider iron sights if the discipline required it.

Thanks guys, some good points and models to check out.
I’m after iron sights because I’m trying to replicate the fun, ease and relaxation of grabbing my old single shot pellet gun and wandering around the bush. It was an awesome way to spend spare time and I learnt a ton about using that rifle just from shooting in different conditions. The scopes and all the extra stuff on offer is great and very impressive but also incredibly overwhelming for a newbie like me. When I research I usually end up frustrated at spending hrs online with no clearer picture of something suitable for using and learning the basics. Buying and selling isn’t an option where I am, small town, ferries etc. and I reckon it’s a waste of money I don’t have to purchase something unknown just to try it out, so am doing the online research. Yes I realise there’s only so much research you can do without physical testing but it’s a good way to narrow the selection down. I’m sure there’s a bunch of you shaking your heads at the route I’m choosing to take lol

I know you mentioned bolt action, but a Winchester 94 / 9422 combo seems like a great fit for this.

There is definitely a 20.5" 455 barrel with iron sights. I got one from a 455 supermatch and put it on my 457 lux. You can swap barrels between the 455 and 457. They are held on with just 2 screws, so you can pretty much make any stock/barrel combo you want. If you have no intention of using a scope the euro/lux/hogsback stock design on the CZ is pretty nice for using the irons, but nothing is stopping you from matching an "american" stock to a barrel with irons. Personally I think the 457 is a better overall product than the 455 but if you find a good deal on a used 455 that matches your criteria go for it. Depending on which centrefire caliber you're looking at, the CZ527 and CZ550 would also be good options for your centerfire rifle, not just the 557.
22LR: CZ455 or CZ457
223 or 7.62x39 for plinking: CZ527 carbine or lux
"hunting" calibers: CZ550 or 557
