Hello all:

Can anyone recommend a gunsmith who can put a 22LR liner in an M1 Garand barrel and have an ball park idea of I should expect to pay?

Thank you, cheers
Mark

In the .22 Lee Enfield thread, I mentioned that I just installed a liner in a SMLE barrel. Turned up an adapter to fill the chamber, bonded it in place, then ran the drill through to open out the bore end-to-end for the liner, and then bonded it in place. Maybe a couple of hours of labour and lathe time to turn and fit the adapter, drill out the barrel, and install the liner.
That would be the easy part.

Setting up the breech end could be complicated. No idea whatsoever what the breech of the barrel should be like, or how a rimfire bolt could be set up.

Paying someone to do experimental work could get pricey.

I would try to get one of the .22 garand's out of the states.

Otherwise I would buy shot-out barrels off the EE and experiment with those

OK, I did a google to find out about .22 Garands. Learned about the Kingston Arms rifles, and found an article about how to make a Garand-ish rifle using a donor 10/22 action, and a lined and adapted M-1 barrel. Looks to be an interesting project. Chap who did the article drilled out and bushed the '06 chamber; I would make a chamber adapter that would look like an '06 cartridge case. Six of one... Barrel shank is lengthened with the chamber adapter to suit the 10/22 receiver, and turned to fit.
