Hey all,

I did some looking a little while back for a bolt gun for my wife, but she decided she didn't want one (she's sticking with her 10/22). My interest is up now and I'm thinking about getting something to play with.

If you had a total of $500 what would you get for a bolt gun in 22lr with a scope? It will be used for target shooting only, mostly from a bench, probably out to 100m, and not for anything more than informal competition. From the limited amount of shooting I've done, I'd like something that's easy to load single shot.

I'd prefer to buy something new rather than used, mostly because it's pretty hard to be sure what you're getting when you buy used. There seems to be a lot of decent rifles (and scopes) out there for some pretty cheap prices.

Thanks

I have the same issue..

Bought a 10/22 to accessorize and it fits the girlfriend better so shes laid claim to it. Doesnt want anything fancy on it.

I have a .22 bolt action that I am looking into turning into my toy now..

I've seen Savage with scope and target barrel at 399$ in Lever Arms on Burrard street. From what I have heard on these boards its an accurate gun. I would buy it myself but I already have all the toys I need. For now...

Why not go with a .17HMR? (unless you have one already?)

Honestly - if you don't already have one, you might consider a .17HMR in bolt - they're around the same price as a 10/22 (I paid $299 for mine with a blued heavy barrel and accutrigger). and the accuracy is insane. I've nicknamed mine "the laser beam". I have a 10/22 with 2 50 round drum mags, and honestly - it is used more by the girlfriend then myself after the .17 purchase. I scope mine for another $90 (Tasco 6X24) and I'm extremely happy with it - just some food for thought.

That's what I thought
I got a Savage FVT. If it would have ben only FV, I might have gotten away with it, but the wife got the Savage and the kid the 10/22.
I got a TOZ 78 now, for myself, and I say.... whaaaaahhh crappy rifle ... just so they don't take it away.....

Either Savage ot Toz are as bit as fun as the 10/22
