Does anyone make a quality .22LR only action anymore? It seems like all the new .22s are built of of receivers made to use .22MAG and .17HMR. It's kind of a similar situation to a .308 built on a 30-06 length action, wasted space and non-optimal design.

Cz 452/455 are really nice performer and great quality.
308 built on 30-06 lengt action? Short action cartbridge in a long action...where have you see this?

To me it looks like .22MAG and .17HMR rifles are manufactured on the same receivers as the .22LR CZ rifles. I'm thinking it would be best to look for something that predates the introduction of the .17HMR as it seems like that was when many manufactures started using universal receivers.

i found that to be a benefit on my savage 300. I can use it as a single shot if needed cause there is enough space to put one round in the chamber.. but yes i agree...it actually takes longer time to move the bolt. They use same receiver and .22 lr has a block where the mag goes. I think the same bolt as well. Other benefit is that the rifle is built strong and if you do have a jam etc its easier to clear. As to receivers built only for .lr... i would use an older gun.

This is an interesting theory. Rem 40X rimfire and custom actions with the 40X footprint seem to fly against it though. These have the same footprint as a Rem 700 short action centrefire but are designed for 22LR.

The miniscule difference in bolt travel between my CZ 452 22LR and the identical
rifle in 17 HMR, or my 455 HB in 22WMR is absolutely a non-issue as far as I am concerned.

I also own a 40X, and it is a single shot...no issue whatsoever, using it's
adaptation to the 22 LR round.
Drop a round onto the loading platform, close the bolt.

Regards, Eagleye.

yeah the axis line have it's own receiver that is the same for every caliber. More economical this way...i had forgot about this one.

I wouldn't hold it against a .22LR if the action is long enough to handle .22 WMR or .17 HMR cartridges. I would be amazed if Anschuetz 54 actions, for example, used different action lengths for the two different families of rimfire cartridges.
