22LR in 22 Magnum

ummmmm yeh, thats why one is called a 22 long rifle and ones a 22 magnum.

the 22lr will chamber in the 22mag but the case will be smaller and upon firing, the case will swell to 22mag size and could rupture or split and you don't want that.

Probably best not to tempt fate with the spent .22LR muddling into the .22 WMR's chamber....:yingyang:...but I'll readily admit I've never tried it, personally.....

If you wish to have a firearm that does both get a Ruger SA Convertable with a cylinder in .22lr and another in .22 wmr.

Otherwise its very unwise to fire .22 shells in a firearm chambered for .22 wmr.

Its like kissing your sister, you can most likely do it but it really isnt wise.

Just out of curiosity, is there a difference in chamber size between the 2? Wouldn't it be like shooting 22 short or long in a LR? I've never been tempted to do it, but I was just wondering.

No.
.22lr is not only shorter than .22Mag, it is also smaller in diameter.
There is a very good chance of splitting the case, and having blow back.
Just plain bad idea.

.22 S/L/LR use a heeled .222" bullet.

.22 Magnum uses a conventional .224" bullet. It was developed from the .22 Winchester Rimfire (.22 WRF), which can be safely fired in a .22 WMR chamber.

Did it by accident once, an old Vickers Martini that had been rechambered and not marked.
Bad accuracy, split cases, messy and loud when one of the caes actually ruptured!! I do not recommend this!

Like trying to put a 4 cylinder into a semi, will it fit? If it was meant to fire LR then it would be marked so. That is why all guns are stamped with the proper ammo caliber. Some may have been altered with a rebore and not restamped . If in doubt, take to a gunsmith for a chamber size check.

Thanks. I wasn't aware of the difference.

NYET- smaller dia. casing in .22lr-at best ,you lead up the front end of the chamber-at worst-you split cases and invite blowback of gases, brass etc.
