I have 2 Henry Rifles. The Golden Boy and the Frontier. They are almost identical except that the Golden Boy has the polished brass and weights 1/2 pound more. I like the sights on the Golden Boy more.
They are actually not almost identical... they are different in receiver and stock geometry... the Golden Boy has much more drop in the stock and a steeper angle to the tang, some smaller framed shooters have a hard time getting a good sight picture with it.
Well I'd get the Henry, but the receiver being brass and super shiny is really not my thing. Do they have one just like the Golden Boy but without that Brass coloured receiver? What, in your honest opinion, then, is the best bang for your buck?
The H001T Frontier has a blued receiver and an octagon barrel... sounds like your best bet. I have two in LR and WMR love those guns!
I see, the H00T1 Frontier. Hmm. Does the Youth also come in dark finish? I'm a smaller guy, and long LOP is not my thing.
I am 6'4" and have NO problem shooting the youth version Henry's... if you are smaller stature it will be your best bet. and more handy to boot.
In order, my preference would be an old Marlin, followed by a Winchester 9422 or a Browning BL22, then newer Marlin, then Henry... I don't care much for the Henry's looks myself. Good enough from 50 feet away, I just don't want one. YMMV.
Spoken like a guy who doesn't own one and has not shot one... I have Win 94's, older Marlin's and Browning BL's... and the Henry is my favorite gun to shoot... you have to give the gun a chance and go shoot it... I have yet to find man or boy who doesn't fall in love with them after shooting them at the range... the actions and feel are buttery smooth and they are consistently accurate... the Frontier is right there with my Marlin Mountie out to 100 m.
