22LR Range?

Hey all, newbie. What is a typical range for a 22LR rifle? or is that a loaded question depending on the rifle? I would like something for the property to play around, small targets etc but want to ensure I am being safe.

Boxes say range upto 1.5 mile. All shots should impact a berm, so you shouldn't need that much distance.

That being said I've plinked regularly at 300 yards. Quite fun watching the round turn to dust on impact. Sometimes you get lucky and see bullet trace too.
