Just wondering what people out there have and what they like for .22lr revolvers.

I had a chance to buy a K-22, but missed out and now I can pick up a S&W 617, but I keep hearing a lot of negative things in regards to S&W's newer revolvers.

I really like my 686, and was hoping to get another S&W for the woman as she only enjoys the lil 22's, but isn't crazy about any of my autos.

Any thoughts, suggestions?

I'm new to this wonderful world, but enjoy a little Taurus 94 9 shot I picked up as my first handgun. Eats everything - long, short, HV, subsonic. An all day plinker and nice way to build experience for bigger and better things to come.

I bought a S&W617 some years ago. It's been a fine gun.

Before you buy the gun make sure your wife tries it. My 617 is a 6" model & with the full barrel underlug it results in a heavy revolver. A person of smaller stature may find the weight to be excessive.

I have not heard of any problems with model 17's or 617's

I had a 9422 as well but they are prohib now.

I've got a Dan Wesson. Accurate little revolver that my kids LOVE to shoot. Eats ammo by the brick-load without a hitch.

S&W certainly are nice....a little spendy. Before the Dan Wesson came up for sale here, I was considering the Taurus Tracker. Good bang for the buck, but a little lacking (or so I hear) in the area of customer service should you need it.

Yea, I thought about weight, but considering it will only dull that tiny bit of 'punch', it's a good thing for her. I don't mind weight at all.

Love to get my hands on that tracker, its an awesome gun...I wonder if JR can get me one...

If I could find a non-prohib stainless Taurus 94 that would be great too.
We'll see what comes my way first. If you're happy so far with your 617, I may just grab that.

Thanks a lot for the info everybody. This Calgary ammo shortage is for the birds. For us non-reloading folks is frustrating as hell to go to 4 stores to be told there is ZERO .38 or .45 ammo when all you want to do is go shoot.

Had a S&W M-17 X 7 3/8" I sold to my best friend some yrs ago. Felt lost without the gun so ordered in a 617X 6" in target form.

To me it is much like the older gun only target front blade, the extra weight due to the full underlug wt, target hammer & target trigger. After three yrs it has never given me any trouble.

My friend still pulls out his 17, when he runs out of center-fire reloads & shoots deadly as old heck with it.

i have this S&W 17-4, and i also have an H&R Sportsman .22LR 9 shot revolver...

i also have the matching 29-2 (.44 mag). Both with 8 3/8" barrels.

I picked up a few rimfire revolvers lately also...Ruger 4 5/8" Single-Six w/mag cylinder, Llama 6" vent rib double action and a couple of H&R 9 shots. Lot's of low cost shooting fun. At the indoor range, the short barreled Single-Six w/ the .22 mag cylinder creates a cool halo when fired

The Tracker is a decent accurate gun, but it's definitely barrel heavy and that may make it tiring to shoot for some people. Plus some poeople like the ribbed grip, I did not and changed it to a Hogue.

I've got a Model 17 6 in. barrel.
I love shooting this K frame.
I prefer it over a 617 because it is lighter and just feels right for me.
I also have a 19 in 6 in.
I like the K frames.
If I was shooting a lot of 357 I'd go for a 686

Model 17 (6"), Colt Trooper Mk III(6"), Colt Officers Model Match(6"), Colt New Frontier(one 4 3/4" and one 6"), Colt Scout, Ruger Bearcat, Colt Diamondback (one 4" and one 6"). Had a DW for a while, would buy another. Had a S&W 34 kitgun, 2" barrel with adjustable sights, great little pocket gun for hiking. - dan

22Lr revolvers

I've got a Taurus Tracker 22lr that I bought off of another CGN'er last year , and it's an awsome shooter , I added a rib mounted multi red dot site , it's a tack driver at 25 yds.Exellent trigger too!
:D

.22 Wheelguns

I've had a S&W 17 in 6", a S&W 18 in 4" and an H&R 9 shot [crappy double action but a tack driver on single action] for double actions.

I've had a Colt Frontier Scout and a Ruger Single Six for single actions.

Currently, only have a S&W Model 63, stainless, J frame, six shot revolver in .22lr...

Liked 'em all........

Lots of great input. Thanks for your opinions guys - it's all very helpful stuff. Can't wait to get mine ;)
