Just picked up some Winchester varmint HE (high energy) .22lr ammo, has anyone used this? It shoots a 37 grain pill that is 3/1 segmenting at 1435 fps. 250 rounds cost me $35 bucks so it is pretty expensive but should cycle well in the cooey semi auto that is very particular with ammo. Anyone used this yet?

Like all the HV stuff I've tried (except the CCI stinger which actually delivers), it's weak. The box I got was doing barely 1300fps out of my Remington 597. That puts it barely ahead of winchester 555 in terms of power. Accuracy was about the same as winchester bulk pack in my particular rifle.

It did cycle well - like all the other ammo I've tried. Nothing to write home about as far as my experience went, I won't be buying it again.

I use yellow jackets when I want to make things explode (rotten fruit, full pop cans). Much more violent expansion.

Hi,

I was looking through my notes today and realized I'd made a mistake here.

My chrono results are as follow for 10 rounds with one error:
1424
1313
1346
1326
1321
1378
1394
1334
1396

average velocity 1359fps. average bullet weight from 5 pulled rounds is 37.4 grains, average powder weight is 2.8 grains.

Average muzzle energy is 153FPE which is actually not bad!

Sorry for the mix-up.

I agree, Stingers do deliver. I also find that the Velocitors do as well. Yellow Jackets and Vipers kill out of proportion to their speed too just with those flat points.
