today I was "chronying" my 9mm Luger handloads out of Beretta Strom and just for a fun of it I checked a few brands of 22lr ammo out of my target pistol. Well, I was into serious puzzle right away.
Remington "Thunderstorms" were flying at 580fps to 820fps. Huge spread in velocities in other words. Not only that but sort of a bit too slow as well.
Winchester "Classic" were way too anemic at 590-630 fps. Like WTF?!
CCI standard velocity though was consistent at 920-940 fps. That is only about 120 fps loss of velocity as compared to full length rifle barrels.
Makes me think - does anybody have real-world data on 22lr ammo velocities in pistol barrel? There is probably huge difference between brands depending on type of powder used - would be interesting to know.
