just got a 220 swift .i'm looking for load data for 50 gr. barnes varmit gernade.
anyone used the 50 gr.varmit gernades yet in a 220 swift?thanx in advance,
i have a 220 swift in remington, the vssf II, and i wanted to try these bullets, but on the box it's write for the 223 only, need a 1:9 or 1:10 twist to stabilize them if i remember good, but all i know it won't fit into a 1:14 twist.
Yeah. Barnes says that they will not stabilize properly in a normal twist rate barrel on the likes of the 22-250 or the others using a 14 twist as standard. It's because they are very long for their weight. Longer bullet needs faster twist rate.
The 36 VG are supposed to stabilize though. I'd think that one of those out of a Swift would about make a gopher vanish when it was hit! Have not heard of any issues with pushing the small VG's too fast, but there may be.
42 grains of Varget for 4400 FPS? I'll bet that will drive them fast enough to stabilize. Stability isn't entirely based on the bullet's length or weight, RPM is the definitive factor.
my barrel is a 1:10" twist BRNO with heavy barrel 24"
I think it will stablize.factory loads are 50 gr.
gotta try em .........you load 42.gr.varget yourself?min load ?or max?
barnes doesn't list it for 220 swift .
can't let fear and common sense hold it back
