I have a 452 Varmint
in 22WMR.
What scope would work best dual purpose punching paper and hunting critters.
Your opinions much appreciated.

Tikka.

I chose a Leupold VX-2 3-9x33 for rimfire, with Adjustable Objective. You may prefer more or less magnification, but I think you will want adjustable parallax capability.

You may hear some say that "if you can't see it, you can't hit it". Not always the case - quite possible to shoot very tight groups with a target that is matched up to shape of your reticle, to give you a solidly repeatable sight picture. It is quite doable to shoot sub one-inch groups with 2 1/2 or 3 power scopes. Some target shooters do it with double aperture "iron" sights.

I really enjoy the Bushnell 6500 2.5-16x42 scope. Side parallax that goes down to 10 yards, 6x erector, and they sell used for under $600. I run them on my 17hmr gopher guns, in fact also my 223 gopher gun.

Wonsky old boy..Dont see anything in my add about setting a budget...lol
I want to know what other people like on their 22WMR

Wosky!
Nothing yet. The rifle sits naked.
I was thinking of looking for a
4200 4-16x40 with SF AO mildot.
Or maybe even a 6500 2.5 -16)

22mag.
So many options for optics.
To be honest I probably wont hunt with it too often.
Also probably not the most accurate chambering
for target shooting. So many scope options on the market. I looked at a Nikon monarch 5 4-16x42 the other
day at Sail. 800.00 + ☹ but the scope was awesome to look through..I want one.
