Was wondering with 1:7 or 1:9 twist. What are most people finding for speeds or do you just work the load up and see?

Really depends on what weight you're pushing. Over Varget: I'm running a 77 gr SMK just over 2600 fps(not done playing..), with the 69gr SMK I'm about 2770 fps and my 55gr V-max is at about 3050.

Barrel stats: 556, 16.5", 1:7 twist

Sorry, should have mentioned.. speed is actually the last thing I check. I look for pressure signs, then search for accuracy, then I chrono the best loads to see how fast they are. If I feel like I'm missing out, I'll try a different powder.

60-70 grains. I tried pushing a 75 grain Hornady in to a case and although it went in there was a big gap at the top of the case and between the bullet. Do you know what I mean?

You're saying there was still lots of room for powder? I've only ever run one load that was compressed, 178 Amax over Varget for a semi-auto. I switched to 8208XBR to avoid it! Every other load I have run is at about 90% full

No, I am not explaining very well. Bullet on right

Ah, you're trying to seat a 75 gr AMAX to 2.26" for AR mags? They need to be seated out longer and are for use in bolt actions mainly. You can use 75 gr HPBT match for 2.26" mag length loads but not the AMAX.

And the crimp on the left round looks excessive to me.

Ah yes. I will not try that again. Don't know anything about crimp but I don't think I will try that again. I was playing with my seating die and I don't feel I should be crimping any of those. Too much pressure? Thanks.
