Made by J. Maton & Co., this shotgun is light and compact, external hammers, light triggers, checkering on the pistol grip and forearm, steel butt plate and 24 gauge, I never new there was such a thing.
Anyone have any knowledge of this gun ? Sorry no pic's, I am inquiring for a friend.

Thanks

Ross

Goto www .bilozir.net for BALLISTIC PRODUCTS CATALOG they have cases wads and loading data for 24 gauge shot shells.

The 24 gauge is a European gauge. Fiocchi makes loaded ammo for it but I've never seen it on this side of the pond.

The gun itself is most probably a Belgian. The name "J. Maton" is very close to the highly-regarded English maker Joseph Manton. The Belgians were notorious for producing guns of lesser quality stamped with names very close to and easily mistaken for a more famous maker.

The "Belgian's" also made some guns of very high quality.

Absolutely right. Francotte, Lebeau Courraly, Dumolin, Browning/FN to name a few. And fortunately the era of Belgian cheapies masquerading under a name similar to a high-grade English gun is long behind us. Many of the guns are still around though.

Even some of the "guild" guns that were made, were very good. Then on the other hand some were junk.
