My grandfather passed away last fall and my grandmother asked me to clean out the ammo box. I found a red cardboard shotgun shell stamped ELEY-KYNOCH 24, it has a piece of cardboard instead of a crimp with what looks to be CHILLED SHOT 6 on it. I've never heard of a 24 ga.

The 24-gauge is a european invention. In europe especially the meditteranean song birds are considered game and consequently shot for the pot. This brought about oddball shot shells like the 24 and 32 gauges. Shells are still available through Ellwood Epps.
